We've Come A Long Way, Baby!

Many women come for electrolysis due to the emergence of male hormone growth pattern facial hair caused by imbalanced hormones from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), pregnancy, pre- and post-menopause, puberty, or medications. Despite the why behind unwanted hair, electrolysis has stood the test of time in permanently removing it!

Being held hostage to hormones is more than frustrating, thus,  further understanding of the cause can be helpful. Options, be they conventional  or non-conventional means, to combat the underlying symptoms are expanding. It’s a toolbox-- making the life journey a little easier from one phase to the next.

Electrolysis For PCOS and Other Hormone Imbalances

Let's Explore the Topic

Throughout  a woman’s life, hormones fluctuate which can cause hair growth that is  unexpected. Hormonal conditions and changes account for numerous other  problems in addition to unwanted hair. Its cause may be related to your genetic makeup, an underlying medical condition, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), pregnancy, menopause, puberty, or some medications. In order to get the proper diagnosis and most effective treatment, you  might want to visit an endocrinologist.

Electrolysis is the best  solution for unwanted hair. During  your consultation, I will conduct a thorough health history. That will  help me determine the possible reason for the hair coming on so suddenly.

Does your family have a history of having unwanted hair?

What medications  are you currently taking?

Do you have any ovarian or menstrual  problems?

Are you diabetic?

Do you have any thyroid problems?

Some studies have shown that women may have menopause symptoms 10 years  prior to reaching menopause. That could be the cause as well. Electrologists are unable to provide you with a diagnosis, however they  are able to ask you questions that can help you with further discussions  that you have with your doctor. No matter what the cause is, an  electrologist can remove unwanted hair permanently.

Many people have unwanted hair. Your electrologist, in fact, has received many hours of electrolysis treatments. They have been in your situation and that is what makes them be able to be so compassionate. It seems there are more people who have unwanted hair than not.

An endocrinologist (who is a hormone specialist) might be able to help  you. A woman should get evaluated by a specialist anytime she is overweight, having difficulties losing weight, have no or irregular periods, partial or total infertility, acne, or excessive fascial or body hair.  Those  are classic symptoms of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). An electrologist cannot give you a diagnosis, but can recognize when something isn’t normal. An electrologist can remove unwanted body and  facial hair permanently if you do have PCOS.

According to Dr. Josh Axe, DNM, DC, CNS as stated on his website, "Alarmingly, estimates show that somewhere between 6 percent to 21 percent of women of childbearing age are affected by PCOS. However, less than 50 percent of women are properly diagnosed. This means millions have no idea what’s causing their underlying symptoms. Since it’s considered to be the major cause of female infertility, this is a big deal!"

How is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) treated?

Treatment will depend on your symptoms as they vary from person to person. Your endocrinologist or primary physician can determine the best course of action to take to alleviate your specific symptoms. Dr. Josh Axe provides a good overview of PCOS along with a summary of conventional treatments and natural remedies on his website https://draxe.com/polycystic-ovarian-syndrome/

Can electrolysis help with chin hairs and acne?

Chin hairs and acne have several sources. For example, waxing and tweezing often exacerbates chin hair on a woman. Yanking out the hairs causes repeated irritation which may result in ingrown hairs from hair in the follicle breaking off or a larger diameter of hair growing out of the follicle. When a woman has acne on her chin but not on other parts of her face and tweezes hair from her chin, electrolysis treatments may offer relief from the acne.  After they have stopped tweezing hair and an electrologist properly treats the hair, their skin will clear.

Usually, facial hair on a woman that is hormonally caused will grow in a pattern. It starts on the corners of one’s upper lip and the chin. This, too, can be treated successfully with electrolysis.

What medications can cause hair growth?

Many different medications may cause hair loss or hair growth. Speak with your pharmacist about any medications you are taking and also the ways your medications may interact.
